Authenticity and Adulteration

Guaranteeing the authenticity of your products should be integral to your quality procedures, it is also essential in the compliance of food labelling regulations.

At Genon we have routine tests to certify the meat and fish content of raw, cooked or processed products, whether they are for human consumption or animal feed.

The species of meat and fish present in foodstuffs is tested for by analysing the DNA present in a sample. Specific genes, found only in a particular species are identified using the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). This is a qualitative test and determines the presence or absence of these genes at a limit of detection of <0.1%.

Our routine tests identify the following species:-

Meat
Beef   •   Pork   •   Sheep   •   Chicken   •   Turkey   •   Horse   •   Goat   •   Rabbit

Fish
Cod   •   Hake   •   Coley   •   Haddock   •   Pollock   •   Whiting   •   Trout   •   Salmon

In addition to meat and fish speciation, with our advanced genetics knowledge we can test for the presence of any specified ingredient, providing that ingredient has an identified DNA sequence. Analysis can be conducted on almost any food/feed matrix - please contact us for more information.
