Authenticity and Adulteration
Guaranteeing the authenticity of your products should be integral to your quality procedures, it is also essential in the compliance of food labelling regulations.
At Genon we have routine tests to certify the meat content of raw, cooked or processed products, whether they are for human consumption or animal feed.
*NEW * We have recently invested in state of the art real-time PCR equipment to enable us to offer quantitative DNA based tests. Our team of molecular biologists have validated the meat speciation services using this equipment and we can now quantify the presence of cattle, pig, sheep and chicken/turkey in any sample. The test is sensitive to 0.01% and results are available 3 days from sample receipt (2 days on emergency service). Please enquire for more details and a quotation.
The species of meat present in foodstuffs is tested for by analysing the DNA present in a sample. Specific genes, found only in a particular species are identified using the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). This is available as a quantitative test - see above - or qualitative to determine the presence or absence of DNA at a limit of detection of <0.1%.
We routinely perform meat speciation and screening to test for • Cattle • Pig • Sheep • Chicken • Turkey
With our advanced genetics knowledge we can test for the presence of any specified ingredient (meat, fish, fruit, vegetable, etc) providing that ingredient has an identified DNA sequence. Analysis can be quantitative or qualitative, according to your budget and requirements, and conducted on almost any food/feed matrix - please contact us for more information.
